Area Information

The north-east coast of Scotland is a beautiful location and a treasure trove for nature lovers, offering visitors the opportunity to see many fishing community towns and villages with harbours and marinas along the rugged coastline. In addition to more rural locations and not forgetting the whisky trail of course. Boat trips, dolphin watching, bird watching, walks, golf, marine aquarium.  Many coastal communities revolved around the fishing heritage and there are also many heritage centres along the coast to visit.

Macduff's harbour was first built in 1760, though at the time the village was known by its original name of Doune. It then became Macduff in 1783. To see the best view of Macduff go to Doune Church which is situated at the top of the town and was built in 1805.

Macduff was a major fishing port town which is separated from historic Banff by the bridge over the river Deveron. Macduff boasts its own award winning aquarium, Tarlair golf course, a driving range and some very quaint tea rooms. Banff has its historical Duff House, a marina and of course Duff House Royal Golf course.  As you go west of Banff you will come to the beautiful fishing village of Whitehills which again has its own marina. Of course the local catch of fish can be purchased fresh from a wide array or produce at the fish shops in Macduff and Whitehills. There is also a farmers market again all local produce on the last Saturday of each month in Macduff Fish Market from 9am until 1pm.

An ideal location for walks where you can start at Macduff Harbour walk round the bay and over the bridge to Banff, then continuing on along the coast route through the Links all the way to Whitehills marina. There are numerous other walks within the area.
